Jo's consultancy work helps to improve dog health and well being throughout the world. She is a leading authority on the veterinary use of herbs in a safe and effective way. A consultation with Jo can help you and your dog access the highest levels of both preventative and proactive holistic care.
Through a private consultation Jo can make recommendations for
Use of herbs to target any specific health conditions, support body systems, bolster overall well being and enhance quality of life for all dogs, all life stages, all health conditions.
Dietary changes and supplements to help tackle underlying health issues
Training and behavioural advice to complement the above
And advice on additional complementary therapies which could be considered to ensure a full robust and holistic approach to well being
As part of a health support plan Jo can develop bespoke support tonics and dried herb mixes as appropriate.
All queries on any specific health issue will require completion of a questionnaire that allows Jo to carry out an initial exploration understanding of the issue and some basic information about your dog. This will be provided to you on purchase of one of the plans.
Note: Whilst we are happy to discuss any problems you may be experiencing with your dogs, we are not allowed by law to offer a diagnosis or provide medical treatment. If you are in any doubt about the health of your animals you must always consult your vet in the first instance. We are happy to work with your local Vet, and find that they are often supportive of an integrative approach. On occasion we will require information from your local Vet too.
If you are unsure of the level of support you require; or are just initially after solid, all round advice about your dog's health care, then the pre-consultation option is designed for you.
It may be that Jo will subsequently direct you to one of our tailored support plans; should you wish to proceed with this your initial consultation fee will be subsequently deducted. Refer to our consultation options for further details.
This pre consultation will cover Jo’s time to respond and liaise with you by email over the extent to which she can offer further help. This may include advice on
Changes you can make at home & environment
Nutrition and supplements
Behaviour & training
Alternative complementary health pathways
Specific breed advice
Signposting to useful resources & product recommendations
Jo will respond within 5 working days to all applications; although in many cases will come back to you a lot sooner.

It will include investigation and interpretation of diagnostics carried out by your Vet, such as bloodwork or scans, and may include recommendations for further diagnostics if appropriate; followed by a tailored step-by-step plan, bespoke tonics and tinctures and follow up support and advise.
After your consultation you are welcome to phone, email, text us to answer any questions you may have while implementing the plan.
This plan will typically cover up to 4 months of treatment.
Follow-up support is a service available to any client who has previously booked a consultation plan and requires a check in/or adjustment to their herbal protocol. This enables Jo to monitor response to changes and make adjustments as indicated. We do strongly recommend having this follow up session just to check that everything is on track and give you peace of mind.
Note: We may request that you get additional diagnostics at your Vet to help with this process.
Example conditions that often require follow up include: Cancer, kidney or liver disease, Addison’s or Cushing’s disease, diabetes, obesity, pancreatitis, skin issues.
The follow up service allows for an hour of Jo’s time. Additional fees may apply to extremely labour-intensive cases, such as those that involve multiple conditions or require daily contact. If so, it will be discussed and agreed beforehand.
This fee does not cover any additional herbal treatments; these will be charged individually as required.
If you are currently experiencing minor or acute/one off difficulties with your dog you might consider having a single consultation with Jo.
Single consultations usually take about an hour of Jo’s time and are ideal if you are require a one off bespoke herbal support treatment to enhance your dogs health or behaviour. During the consultation we will investigate the challenges that you are experiencing with your dog’s health or behaviour and discuss solutions and actions that can be taken to resolve these issues.
Often people that have had a full consultation may come back for a single consultation for other dogs in their family.
Typical examples of single support plan issues include: Pre/post steroid or antibiotic support; liver detox and support; post digestive upset.
This plan includes one round of tonic &/or dried herb support mix.
Applied Zoopharmacognosy (AZ) enables your dog to effectively self-medicate; and within this process enable you to potentially understand underlying root cause of illness. AZ can be particularly useful for issues that are not visually obvious or easily diagnosed, but also more importantly those that are eluding absolute diagnosis of cause (idiopathic).
We often find that the selections are contrary to what are initially presumed based upon either previous veterinary treatment or client experience. And this gives us real insight into the cause of illness or issue, rather than simply the symptoms.
AZ can also be very useful to help with emotional and behavioural issues such as separation anxiety, grief, trust, fear and reactivity to other dogs/humans.
The process involves offering a choice of plant extracts that would contain the same, or similar constituents to those found in an animal’s natural environment. As a result the animal is empowered to manage their own health, rather than having medications administered based upon oftentimes flawed perception or diagnosis.
Animals in the wild have the opportunity to do this, and there have been many studies and examples demonstrating this. For our pets we have unknowlingly taken this opportunity away. Remarkably, however, they do still retain this ability, almost like a "sixth sense", to know what they need to achieve a healthy balance.
An AZ session involves offering a variety of both nutritive and healing herbs, macerated oils and essential oils. The session is then guided by your dog's selections - which are either inhaled, taken orally, or applied topically to wherever the dog indicates. It is truly an amazing and fascinating process to observe.
The session length is dictated by the dog, who will very clearly indicate when they are done, but generally takes anything from 2 – 3 hours. An in-depth consultation will also form a key part of the session, and we will advise you on anything you may need to provide before or at the session.
The fee includes the use of all herbs/oils during the session, but we do not currently sell any oils or herbs that your dog may continue to work with post session. Although we will be able to advise you as to which items we would recommend you continue to work with at home, and how to do this.
Travel is charged additionally if required.
