HOW TO FEED OUR SUPPLEMENTS

All of our supplements are designed to be fed as part of your dog's daily diet.. They are all based on whole foods or whole plant extracts. Unlike their synthetic counterparts, supplements made from entire plants contain the whole complex intact. The body recognizes this as food, not a drug, and the body doesn’t have to compensate for any missing elements because they are all there, just the way Mother Nature intended them to be. They don’t leech the body of their missing co-factors or cause an imbalance that leads to disease. .

They can be given once a day, or the dose can be split between meals over the course of the day. This may be more preferable for chronic, long term issues e.g. arthritis, as this allows the supplement to remain in the body longer.

If you are feeding dried kibble/nuts then you will need to add a splash of water when using our dried herbal mixes. Longer term you should look into a more species appropriate, fresher and natural way of feeding as this is one of the best things you can do to help support your dog's overall well being. (For more information on this see our blog on Dog Diet & Health)

You may also want to add some yummy extras such as yoghurt, oily fish, soft cheese, peanut butter etc to tempt them if they are fussy eaters, or simply mix the supplements in with these treats and feed separately to their main meal as you do not want to put them off eating.

Garlic:

Used in Worms Away, Ticked Off and Eat Me

Many veterinary practitioners and authors follow the dosage recommendations in Juliette de Bairacli Levy’s book, The Complete Herbal Book for the Dog. She recommends:

  • 10 to 15 pounds – ½ clove

  • 20 to 40 pounds – 1 clove

  • 45 to 70 pounds – 2 cloves

  • 75 to 90 pounds – 2½ cloves

  • 100 pounds and over – 3 cloves

A more conservative approach was agreed in a 2008 report published by the National Research Council uses “available research to recommend a range of acceptable intakes according to historical safe intakes (HSI) and estimated presumed safe intakes (PSI)”:

  • A 50 lb (20kg) dog is 1.2 g/day, which is equivalent to approx. ½ clove per day (10kg dog 0.6g/day)

  • A 15 lb (7kg) cat is 0.12 g/day, which is equivalent to approx. 1/5 clove per day
