Fundamentals: Genitourinary

A specially selected blend of potent herbs that can help tackle both acute and chronic genitourinary problems. Suitable for UTIs, inflammation and incontinence.

Urinary tract infections (or UTIs) are common in dogs, however many bladder issues are actually from inflammation where there is no bacteria associated with them at all. As a result, a course of antibiotics won’t do much to help. As a result, antibiotics can cause long-term damage and it's best to avoid them whenever you can.

Urinary Tract Inflammation & Infection (UTIs):

UTIs can affect your dog’s kidneys, ureter, urethra and bladder.

They can quite often be recurrent and can even have a genetic/breed prevalence. Causes could be related to stress and diet but may also include immunological deficiency or fungal or protozoan infections. Other causes could include bladder stones, injuries, or tumours.

We would recommend that you have a vet diagnosis before starting this support treatment, to establish the root cause of your dog’s urinary issues to ensure that you are not missing a bigger problem or if your dog actually requires antibiotics.

As soon as the bladder gets inflamed for any reason, you'll notice that your dog frequently tries to urinate. He or she will often end up urinating in inappropriate places, such as throughout the home.

Urinary Incontinence:

The bladder is composed of smooth muscle groups that are dependent on reproductive hormones. When hormone production is altered, the bladder can lose tone and urine dribble occurs. Herbs can not replace hormones, although some do contain estrogenic compounds. Predominantly, you need to use herbs to help strengthen and support the structure and function of the bladder and urinary tissues.

For older dogs or epileptic dogs, incontinence can be related more directly to neurological decline, so herbs that improve synaptic transmission and blood circulation to the brain are more suitable. In these cases we would suggest giving them either our “Fundamentals: Seniors” or “My Old Dog”, flaxseed oil blend.
